Education
Judith earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Arizona State University and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from Northern Arizona University, while working full time. While working on her Master’s Degree, Judith worked part-time as a network administration for a small law firm, and taught word processing programs at the Arizona State Computer Institute.
Grew Up In Chicago
The second of seven children. Judith has two grown daughters, Jennifer and Amy, and a granddaughter, Jessica. Judith was divorced from her childrens’ father after leaving Chicago and then widowed when her second husband died in 2000.
Three Uncles Served in the Military
Three of Judith’s uncles served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Her uncle, Tom, was a B-17 pilot who flew 35 missions over Germany at the end of the end of the war in Europe, and then went out for fighter pilot training and was killed. He was only three months short of his 21st birthday.
Moved to Arizona in 1970
Judith relocated to Arizona in 1970, and worked a variety of jobs, and then was trained as a legal secretary. During her work with attorneys, Judith volunteered for Hospice of the Valley, being present with clients who were in the last stages of their lives. Judith also volunteered with Andre House, a homeless shelter, preparing Friday night dinners for residents.
Licensed Professional Counselor
Judith was licensed as a Professional Counselor in 2004 by the State of Arizona Board of Behavioral Health, when licensure was first instituted. Judith achieved certification as a Mental Health Counselor after graduation and began her professional counseling private practice. At the same time, she served as a volunteer counselor for the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, creating weekend seminars, workshops, and facilitating support groups.
Parks & Recreation Board Member
In June of 2017, Judith was appointed as a member of the City of Peoria Parks & Recreation Board. Her term runs through 2021.
The first recipient of the Humility Award
In 2004, Judith was honored as the first recipient of the Humility Award by Sierra Tucson, one of the nation’s premier residential substance abuse treatment centers. Judith received this award for her work as an advocate for her work with people struggling with substance abuse.
Authored a number of articles
Judith has published a number of magazine articles including The Arizona Republic (A Difficult Hill to Climb; A Cycle of Life; Reflections on Motherhood) and The Catholic Sun. (Catholics and Divorce), among other publications.
